Ashdown designed this pedal with bass master Stuart Zender, Jamiroquai’s original bass player and one of its founding members. This redesigned version of the SZ Funk Face packs those same funky, overdriven tones that capture “Virtual Insanity” type bass grooves through a 3-knob, 2-switch interface. Simplistic on the outside, the SZ Funk Face packs a wealth of hard-hitting, spectacularly funky tones within. Based on your playing style, attack, and dynamics, the SZ Funk Face Vu can output sounds ranging from subtle filters to fully responsive auto wahs. Plus, the added Ashdown VU meter gives you a direct visualization of where the pedal’s sweet spot lies.

What’s all the funk about?

There’s no need to waste your time with separate wah and drive pedals, the SZ Funk Face Vu brings you the best of both worlds and everything in between. You can start crafting your own distinctively choppy bass grooves with the Level, Face, and Funk knobs. These allow you to perfectly shape your effects response and decide how much you want in your final signal path. Plus, the SZ Funk Face Vu can function as a clean level booster without the wah engaged. Both the distortion and the funk-tastic wah section can be engaged via the independent footswitches. Sweetwater enjoyed testing the distortion section and found that it naturally enriches harmonics too! You may have noticed the switch on the side of the pedal — this sets your overdrive pre- or post-wah, so you have maximum executive power over your final sound. Lastly, true bypass switching means the SZ Funk Face Vu adds zero unwanted coloration to your signal when not in use.
