With the Martin OM-42 Standard Series , the American manufacturer Martin is expanding its range to include another premium acoustic guitar in the traditional OM design with the finest materials and elaborate ornamentation that showcase the high-quality instrument in a very aesthetic way. This acoustic guitar, handmade in Nazareth Pennsylvania, produces an extremely powerful sound thanks to its careful workmanship and perfectly seasoned woods. The sound is defined and clearly reproduced in all frequencies. A wafer-thin lacquer and a flat bracing allow the wood to vibrate distinctly, so that the sound can be fully developed with a very easy response and without much effort. Detailed decorations in the form of subtle abalone inlays and bindings adorn the Martin OM-42 Standard Series guitar and illustrate the great craftsmanship of the almost 200-year-old family business. The scope of delivery includes a perfectly fitting Ply-Hardshell molded case and a warranty card.
A noble Sitka spruce top with Aging Toner finish
In order to produce a powerful sound with clear treble and mid frequencies, the manufacturer uses a high-quality Sitka spruce top, which is easily recognized by its even and flamed grain. Due to its dense structure, the North American spruce has a very strong vibrational behaviour, which means that the individual tones can be developed very directly. This effect is favored by a flat Scalloped-X-Bracing and a wafer-thin lacquer, which produce a fast response and let the sound fade out in the overtones for a long time, giving the instrument an orchestral note. Bounded by an elaborate abalone multi-stripe top inlay, a successful transition from the top, which has an aging toner finish, to the dark body material is created, discreetly emphasizing the value of the fine wood. Decorated by a faux-tortoise pickguard and an abalone Multi-Stripe soundhole rosette, the light-colored spruce wood stands in tasteful contrast to the black ebony bridge with its characteristic snowflake inlays.
A dark rosewood on the back and sides
For a powerful expression of the bass frequencies, the body construction contains a strikingly grained rosewood, which, due to its hardness and coarse structure, enriches the low notes with a defined saturation and favors a rapid sound development. Especially in combination with the light spruce top, this rare tropical wood is often used in guitar building because of its unique sound characteristics. Divided in two parts by an elaborate Style 45 backstrip, the symmetrical grain of the opened back is emphasized, so that the observer gets a deep insight into the multifaceted play of colors that runs through the entire wood. Back and sides are bounded by an antique-white binding in perfectly matching colors, creating a successful contrast between them and the top, which perfectly rounds off the overall appearance in its aesthetics.
Easy playability thanks to a flat neck profile
In order to offer the player maximum playing comfort of the Martin OM-42 Standard Series, the manufacturer uses a mahogany neck with an ebony fingerboard, which can be played easily and without much pressure up to the highest frets due to a modified low oval profile. Fine abalone snowflake inlays adorn the most important frets and their fine color reflections underline the great skill and attention to detail that went into the construction of this high-quality instrument. The dark fretboard is also bordered by a simple antique-white binding, which from the 14th fret onwards is additionally framed by a high-quality abalone decoration on the top. A 44.45 mm wide bone nut and a compensated bridge inlay, which are carefully matched to each other, ensure excellent intonation over the complete 645 mm scale length. The characteristic Martin headstock is equipped with gold open-gear tuners that not only guarantee precise tuning but also emphasize the generous C.F. Martin company logo.
